Opioid Settlement Funding for NC Recovery Nonprofits
North Carolina’s opioid settlement is the largest new funding stream for recovery providers in a generation—and faith-based nonprofits are eligible. Bridge to 100 helps affiliates understand the landscape, find the right opportunities, and put together strong, evidence-informed applications.
How the funding flows
- State directed grants. The NC General Assembly directs grants to specific organizations in the budget. Recent recipients include Bridge to 100 affiliates such as Christian Recovery Centers, Bethel Colony of Mercy, and Freedom House—proof the network helps centers access dollars.
- County RFAs. Most funds reach all 100 counties through the NC Memorandum of Agreement (MOA). Counties run their own competitive Requests for Applications (for example Johnston, Cabarrus, and Randolph), each with its own deadlines.
- CORE-NC. The Community Opioid Resources Engine at ncopioidsettlement.org tracks allocations and local processes.
What funds can support
Approved MOA strategies map cleanly onto whole-person, faith-based care: evidence-based addiction treatment, recovery support services, recovery housing, employment services, early intervention, post-overdose response, criminal-justice diversion, and reentry programs.
Questions
Opioid Settlement Funding FAQ
Can faith-based nonprofits receive NC opioid settlement funds?
Yes. Faith-based and community-based nonprofits are eligible—through state directed grants and competitive county RFAs—as long as the work supports evidence-based strategies in the NC MOA.
How do recovery centers apply for opioid settlement funding in NC?
Most funding is administered by counties through periodic RFAs with their own deadlines, plus state directed grants set in the NC budget. Bridge to 100 helps affiliates track cycles, align proposals to approved MOA strategies, and measure outcomes.
What can opioid settlement funds pay for?
Approved uses include evidence-based addiction treatment, recovery support services, recovery housing, employment services, reentry programs, naloxone distribution, and more under the NC MOA approved strategies.
